Opening expo: Images by Dan D’Ascenzo

Dan’s relationship with Cafe Zondag started in 2011.

He created his Instagram account and made his first post from there on that year, not from the bar, but from the DJ booth. Having been a DJ since ’91, Cafe Zondag, this warm and intimate cultural cornerstone in Maastricht, has always held a special place in his heart, where he had the chance to perform a couple of times.

Photography, a passion from his teenage years, found its way back into Dan’s life around 2010 and gradually became his primary artistic expression. For the past 8 years, he has been capturing life through his lens, focusing on fine art street photography and urban landscapes in black and white.

Now, we are thrilled to present Dan’s first solo exhibition at Cafe Zondag. The exhibition showcases his personal favorite black and white images – primarily from Maastricht’s streets and corners, interwoven with captures from around the globe. Visitors might even discover some exclusive color works in the mix.

Having closed his chapter in the music industry at the end of 2023, Dan will be performing one final exclusive DJ set behind the turntables at the vernissage on March 7th.
He couldn’t imagine a more fitting place than Cafe Zondag for this new beginning – where we’ll dance on the tables one last time, before he fully embraces his journey as a visual artist.

The exhibition runs for one month, marking both an end and a beginning in this space that has meant so much to him.
